Just to echo Ellen's post - we're receiving wonderful hospitality here in Southern Illinois - I was hosted in Marion, IL by John, Amy and Nick Sanders and then in Harrisburg, IL by Martin, Angie and Garrett Rowe - I seriously don't think I've laughed this much in A LONG time, my face muscles ache, so a huge thank you to all of you guys, but seriously people - I've not eaten this much in ages!!! I just hope my family recognise me at the airport when we get home because I'm gaining the pounds!
As with Ellen, tonight has probably been the first 'down time' to update the blog because we're literally non-stop, for example, Friday morning we were up at 6am, on the road from Kentucky Lake by 7.15am, in Carbondale by 9am and I was in SIU Hospital by 9.30 for my vocational activity. I was picked up at 4.30 and dropped at my great new hosts house (shout out to the infamous Harvey & Trish Welch!) then a quick change and bite to eat before a meet'n'great at 6pm at the SIU Football Stadium before a night on the town.
Today, I had an interesting day with 2 church services before midday - a traditional Lutheren service and then over to a Gospel service at the New Zion Church in Carbondale with the best music and voices I've heard in A LONG time!! Ellen's already spoken about the Root Beer saloon and wineries, but the FOOD - gotta mention the food ...........the hospital I was spending time in last week had a specialist Bariatric Unit - I can see why - I've never eaten so much deep fried, cheese covered food in my life, but the thing is..... IT'S SOOOO GOOD!! I'm just gonna keep eating then book in for a gastric band before we fly home!!
Oh, as you may have guessed, we all survived the tornado/hurricane - hope everyone's well, love to you all, Happy Easter, Rob xxxxx
